At Genesis Plastic Surgery & Medical Spa, we offer three breast augmentation incision options:
- Transaxillary. These incisions are placed in the folds of the armpits
- Periareolar. These incisions follow the areolas
- Inframammary. These incisions are placed underneath the breasts
In each case, great care is taken by Dr. Panchal to hide incisions within darker skin or natural folds. This helps to reduce the risks of visible scars.
Aftercare and Recovery
Following breast augmentation, you must allow your body to heal appropriately. Any activities that cause strain on the incisions can result in a tear, heightening risks for discomfort, infection, and unsatisfactory results. It may take up to eight weeks for your body to heal enough for you to resume demanding physical activities.
In addition to limiting activities, you must keep your incisions dry and clean to avoid infection after breast augmentation. Wearing your compression garment will add support, reduce swelling, and help prevent scarring.
You must avoid blood thinners and vasoconstrictors during breast augmentation recovery to help prevent visible scars. This means no nicotine for at least six weeks before and after surgery, along with ceasing certain medications and supplements that can delay or complicate the healing process.
After recovery, your scars may appear raised and reddened. These issues should self-correct within a year as your scars become paler and less distinct. Silicone sheets and scar revision ointment can be used at this point to help reduce visibility. Laser scar revision may also help to improve the appearance of breast augmentation scars. However, none of these options will be able to eliminate your scars completely.
