What is a Brazilian Butt Lift?
A Brazilian Butt Lift, also referred to as a BBL and buttock lift, is a better alternative to silicone buttock implants, which often create and abnormal shape and many complications. BBLs are the latest technique that avoids the problems with buttock implants.
This surgery involves re-injecting fat removed from the buttocks other areas via liposuction back into your buttock in very specific areas creating a natural-looking contour. Using your own fat also minimizes the risks of complications.
Dr. Panchal has been performing Brazilian Butt Lifts since 2007 and was one of the first to perform buttock augmentations with fat in Oklahoma. His excellent results with more than 50 patients were presented at the American Aesthetics Society meeting in May 2011 in Boston.

Planning Your Surgery
During your initial consultation, Dr. Panchal will examine the areas that need liposuction, estimate how and where he will re-insert fat, determine the location of the small incisions, and discuss the final outcome that you can expect. The amount of liposuction necessary varies depending on the person, but Dr. Panchal’s ultimate goal is to reshape your buttock so that it looks aesthetically appealing and proportional.
Surgery Locations
Dr. Panchal only performs buttock lift surgery at outpatient surgical centers, such as Oklahoma Surgicare in Oklahoma City. If a large amount of liposuction is needed, or if liposuction is combined with another procedure, an overnight stay at the surgical center may be required.
Anesthesia
Buttock lifts are performed under general anesthesia—which means you’ll be asleep during the surgery. The duration of the procedure may vary from 2-4 hours depending on the amount of fat that needs to be removed and re-injected.
How is BBL Surgery Performed?
Buttock lift surgery is performed in two steps: liposuction to remove fat and strategic re-injection of fat to create shape. The incisions through which the fat is removed and inserted are small (1/8 of an inch) and will be barely visible after surgery. Additional incisions may be necessary only if this procedure is combined with a tummy tuck.
Liposuction is performed using power-assisted liposuction. Dr. Panchal uses the latest technique and equipment to perform liposuction. This unique technique allows Dr. Panchal to use a hollow tube (liposuction cannula), which vibrates very rapidly to easily break up fat cells. This allows Dr. Panchal to quickly remove large amounts of fat through a small incision. He uses special cannulas to prevent rippling in the skin, which creates an unnatural look.
The liposuction is performed at the hips, buttock, lower back and upper back. The goal is to enhance the curve of the lower back creating a distinction between the back and the buttocks. Dr. Panchal takes great pride in giving patients a very natural look.
After liposuction, Dr. Panchal can then re-inject the cleaned and purified fat back into areas where you lack definition. The most common area to re-inject fat is into the outer and central buttocks to further enhance the shape. The re-injection is performed very selectively into various zones and requires a high level of understanding of the underlying shape. The final shape is customized to create a well-rounded and aesthetically pleasing buttock shape.
Even performing liposuction of the lower back, buttock and hips without any fat re-injection can dramatically alter the shape of your waist, back, and buttocks.

Are There Risks to BBL Surgery?
A buttocks lift is a very safe surgery if performed by an experienced surgeon and if the volume of fat removed is kept below 5-6 liters. If the volume of fat removed exceeds 5-6 liters, it can produce excess movement of fluid and can create complications from fluid overload. Dr. Panchal always removes fewer than six liters, keeping the risk of complication to a minimum.
Patients may notice some temporary irregularity in their skin surface and moderate swelling. The swelling generally disappears in a few weeks, but swelling in a few, heavily altered areas may last for up to 3 months. Some areas may feel firm for 3-6 weeks.
In rare cases, small areas of fat may not completely soften and may become infected. This rare condition may require additional surgery to remove this small area of fat.
What is the Recovery from Brazilian Butt Lift Surgery?
The healing process takes many weeks. It is important to be patient and wait 3-6 weeks for the swelling to subside before evaluating your results. A small amount of fluid may drain from the incision site for the first few days following your butt augmentation. Any unnatural firmness in the buttocks will gradually begin to soften and feel normal after about 3 weeks.
Generally, patients can go back to work within a few days if liposuction is very limited. It may take a few weeks if the the liposuction was extensive or if you have had additional surgery in conjunction with the liposuction (for instance, a tummy tuck). The stitches do not need to be removed. They will dissolve in 10 days to 2 weeks.
Once the swelling subsides, you will notice the difference in the shape of your buttocks. With every passing week, you will continue to see the change until 3-6 months after surgery. Remember, you will have to eat healthy and continue to exercise, so that you can maintain the result of your buttocks lift.

What Are The Risks Of a Brazilian Butt Lift?
While a Brazilian butt lift can enhance your appearance, there are a few risks you need to take into account. The buttocks area contains a lot of nerves and blood vessels. The surgeon has to guide the cannula through the buttocks carefully.
If they are not careful and accidentally strike a nerve or blood vessels, it could cause a serious complication. It could lead to a fat embolism or other life-threatening complications. Other risks can include contracting an infection, bruising, changing the skin’s sensitivity, causing skin discoloration, swelling, and poor healing.
To lower your risk of complications, you should only receive a BBL from a highly qualified and board-certified plastic surgeon. Dr. Panchal is incredibly experienced, having served as Chief of Plastic Surgery at the University of Oklahoma and been in practice for over 19 years.
How Long Does It Take To Recover From a Brazilian Butt Lift?
Upon the completion of your Brazilian butt lift, you will have to wait at least seven to 10 days before resuming light activity. For a full recovery, it usually takes six to eight weeks before you can resume your normal activities. However, we encourage each patient to heal at their own pace and allow their bodies to fully recover from their procedure.
