Eyelid LIft

Does Eyelid Surgery Hurt?

Eyelid surgery, also known as blepharoplasty or an eyelid lift, can be used to address cosmetic issues with both the upper and lower eyelids. With this procedure, double board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Jayesh Panchal can:

  • Eliminate dark circles and bags from below the eyes
  • Reduce puffiness in the lower eyelids
  • Remove wrinkles from the upper eyelids
  • Lift drooping or saggy upper eyelids

When performed by Dr. Panchal, blepharoplasty is completed in one of our convenient OKC-area offices or, when the situation calls for it, in one of the third-party accredited surgical facilities at which he routinely operates.

Anesthesia and Blepharoplasty

Eyelid surgery is often performed under local anesthesia, helping to guard against any discomfort during the procedure. When both upper and lower eyelids are being corrected, it may be better to undergo general anesthesia due simply to the increased length of the procedure. In both instances, there should not be any discomfort during an eyelid lift.

Following blepharoplasty, you can expect some swelling around the eyes. This should self-correct within five to ten days, though some residual swelling may remain for up to one month. Slight bruising is possible after surgery as well, as are dry eyes. Similar to swelling, these things will self-correct. You can hasten recovery by carefully following all of the instructions provided by our staff.

Dr. Panchal will meet with you for regularly scheduled follow-up visits during your recovery phase. These allow him to check for any potential complications and to help you determine when it is safe to resume wearing contact lenses, applying makeup, and engaging in strenuous exercise. Risks with this procedure are rare, made more so when you work with an experienced and board-certified plastic surgeon like Dr. Panchal.

Combining Procedures

Blepharoplasty can be complemented by other surgical procedures including facelift, brow lift, and rhinoplasty. It can also be enhanced through non-surgical treatments such as BOTOX® Cosmetic or laser skin resurfacing. During your initial consultation, we will discuss all of your options to help you choose the best ones for your needs.
