Many people experience weight fluctuations, even after liposuction. If you take steps to maintain your liposuction results, such as eating a healthy diet and exercising several times a week, mild weight changes will likely have minimal impact. However, if you gain a substantial amount of weight – more than 10 pounds – you risk undoing the results of your liposuction procedure.
Liposuction is permanent in that fat, once removed, does not magically grow back. Results can, however, be undone through new weight gain. The best way to avoid this issue is to stay healthy and active.
What About Excess Skin?
With extra weight comes extra skin. Fat cells can be removed through liposuction, but excess skin cannot. Unfortunately, once fat is removed, excess skin often becomes loose and slack, obscuring the results of your fat removal procedure. In these cases, Dr. Jayesh Panchal may recommend additional treatments, such as abdominoplasty, thigh lift, or arm lift. He can discuss these options in more detail if a lift procedure could benefit you.
Another option for dealing with loose and sagging skin, particularly in the face and buttocks, is fat transfer. Fat transfer uses the cells removed through liposuction to reshape and enhance areas that commonly deflate or sag with age. Reinjecting fat cells can add volume, improve elasticity, and create a fuller, healthier, and more appealing look in various areas of the body.
