Debunking Common Rhinoplasty Myths

Rhinoplasty Rhinoplasty is the surgical altering of the nose, often for cosmetic purposes. In fact, rhinoplasty is one of the most popular facial cosmetic surgeries out there. The nose is the center point of the face, and many people choose to alter its appearance to enhance their facial balance. However, like all cosmetic procedures, there are some misconceptions or myths surrounding rhinoplasty that should be addressed. Let’s take a look at and debunk some common rhinoplasty myths.

Rhinoplasty Is Only Cosmetic

It is a common misconception that rhinoplasty is only used for aesthetic purposes. In reality, rhinoplasty can also be used for functional purposes like correcting structural issues that may cause breathing issues. This most commonly would happen after an injury to the nose.

Rhinoplasty Causes Fake-Looking Noses

Like all plastic surgery, rhinoplasty is designed to look at natural as possible. A skilled surgeon will enhance the look of your nose while also maintaining facial balance. Your nose improvements will seem entirely natural to the untrained eye.

Non-Surgical Rhinoplasty is Just as Good

This misconception is like comparing apples to oranges. The goal of non-surgical and surgical rhinoplasty may be similar, but the results are very different. Non-surgical rhinoplasty primarily uses fillers to shape and alter the appearance of the nose. This means you can only add to the outside volume and cannot take away tissue. Non-surgical rhinoplasty is also not permanent. Surgical rhinoplasty can add, sculpt, and remove tissue from the nose. While both procedures have their place, you will not achieve the same level of results with non-surgical rhinoplasty.

Rhinoplasty Leaves Visible Scars

With any surgical procedure, incisions have to be made. However, the scars left by rhinoplasty are very subtle and fade over time. Some rhinoplasty procedures can even be done from inside the nostrils. This type of procedure is called closed rhinoplasty and creates scars that will never be seen.
