BOTOX® Cosmetic vs. Dermal Fillers

Both BOTOX® Cosmetic and dermal fillers are nonsurgical options for facial rejuvenation. Both can be used to soften wrinkles. Both have a long history of safety and efficacy. They are, however, very different in scope.

Dermal Fillers Soften and Volumize

Dermal fillers, like Juvederm and Radiesse, contain ingredients that add volume to the skin. Fillers serve to replenish lost levels of vital skin nutrients, such as hyaluronic acid, while stimulating collagen production to produce a fuller, softer, and noticeably more youthful appearance.

With dermal fillers, areas of the face that have lost volume, become sunken or saggy, or have hollowed can be lifted, filled, and softened to produce a smooth, unblemished appearance. A single treatment may produce results for 12 months or longer and treatment can be reapplied as needed to help maintain consistent results.

BOTOX® Cosmetic Releases and Relaxes

BOTOX® Cosmetic is a neurotoxin that disrupts the signal between the nerve and the muscle, allowing overlying skin to relax. When used cosmetically, BOTOX® reduces the appearance of fine lines and deep wrinkles by eliminating muscle tension and relaxing the skin. These injections do not add volume or softness to the face.

BOTOX® Cosmetic is best for areas of the skin that are not typically plump. These include wrinkles next to the eyes and around the lips, creases and wrinkles across the forehead, and furrows in between the brows. BOTOX® can also be used on bands on the neck, but not for a double chin or turkey waddle.

A single treatment of BOTOX® Cosmetic may produce results for three to four months. Repeat injections can be performed routinely or as needed to help maintain results.

BOTOX® Cosmetic or Dermal Fillers? Which is Best for You

Neither dermal fillers nor BOTOX® Cosmetic is superior to the other. They address very different concerns and are, therefore, not really comparable. The best way to learn which option will produce the results you desire is through a private and confidential consultation at one of our OKC area offices.

Board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Jayesh Panchal takes time to listen to each patient he sees. Careful and meticulous in his evaluations, he is able to determine the best fit for every need. If a nonsurgical option can address your concerns, he will provide the most conservative-but-effective solution. If not, surgical options or combination procedures can be discussed as well to help make sure we are addressing all of your concerns.

If you are ready to schedule your initial consultation with Dr. Panchal, please call our Edmond office at 405-340-9949 or our Norman office at 405-310-6767 today. We welcome patients from Oklahoma City and all surrounding areas.
