Labiaplasty – Vaginal Rejuvenation Surgery

Plastic Surgeon & Medical Spa Serving Norman, Edmond, Oklahoma City & Nearby Central Oklahoma

Labiaplasty is a procedure that addresses labial hypertrophy, a condition in which the vaginal lips are enlarged that can cause irritation, interfere with sexual pleasure, and limit clothing options. With labiaplasty, board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Jayesh Panchal can trim and sculpt the labia majora and minora (collectively known as the vulva) to restore comfort and form to the vaginal area.

If you struggle with emotional or physical discomforts brought about by an enlarged vulva, Dr. Panchal welcomes an opportunity to listen to your concerns, discuss all of your options, and help you decide if labiaplasty is the right solution for your needs.

The Labiaplasty Procedure

When the labia minor (inner lips) protrude beyond the labia majora (outer lips), there are various techniques that can be used to improve comfort and appearance. Simply trimming excess skin from the labia minora and suturing the edges shut is often a good solution for women whose labial edges are darker. This technique restores pinkness to the entire vulva, which may address certain aesthetic concerns. It can, however, produce an unnaturally uniform appearance.

To address unnatural uniformity, it may be best to remove a wedge-shaped piece of tissue from the labia, allowing sutures to tighten the surrounding areas for optimal restoration of comfort and appearance. With this method, excess skin is drawn up without impacting the labial edges, allowing for a more natural-looking end result, though this technique will not address differentiations in labial coloring.

These techniques vary depending on the specific needs and desires of the patient, but both take around two hours to perform. Labiaplasty can be completed under local or general anesthesia depending, again, on the specific needs of each patient. Which option, along with which technique, will be best for you can be discussed during your initial consultation with Dr. Panchal.

Clitoral Hood Reduction

During labiaplasty, the clitoral hood (the point where both sides of the inner labia meet) can also be reduced for enhanced aesthetics. Reduction of the clitoral hood may also address certain sexual discomforts or limitations brought about by excessive labial tissue. Dr. Panchal will listen to your desired outcomes and modify techniques to meet your specific needs.

Recovery from Labiaplasty

Recovery from labiaplasty can take up to two months, but most women are able to resume many normal activities within just a few days. Some bruising and swelling are common during the first few weeks. These issues can be addressed with over-the-counter pain medications in most instances. Dr. Panchal will prescribe medications as needed to address discomfort during your recovery period.

Certain activities, including horseback riding and bicycling, will need to be avoided for four to six weeks. Sexual activity should be avoided during this time as well. This will help ensure your recovery is as smooth as possible and reduce the risks of irritation and infection.

Dr. Panchal will provide you with information before your procedure to help ease your recovery period and address any concerns you may be having during your follow-up visits after your procedure. Be sure to follow these directions closely to reduce risks of discomfort or unsatisfactory results.

Good Labiaplasty Candidates

If you are unhappy with the appearance of your vagina, you may be a good candidate for labiaplasty. If you struggle with discomfort due to excessive labial tissue, you may be a good candidate for labiaplasty. If you find sexual activities uncomfortable or unsatisfying, you may be a good labiaplasty candidate. The best way to find out is through a private and confidential consultation at one of our OKC-area offices.

Additional considerations for labiaplasty candidacy include:

  • Being in generally good health
  • Having the ability to take a few days off for initial recovery
  • A willingness to follow pre and postoperative advice
  • Having realistic expectations of outcomes

Dr. Panchal will assess your candidacy during your initial consultation to help you determine if this procedure is right for your needs.

Nonsurgical Alternatives to Labiaplasty

If you are not a good candidate for labiaplasty or if surgical alteration of your vagina is not attractive to you, Dr. Panchal also offers nonsurgical vaginal tightening with ThermiVa. ThermiVa utilizes radiofrequency energy to gently heat and tighten vaginal tissue, helping to firm and tone without surgical intervention.

ThermiVa is a suitable alternative to labiaplasty in some, but not all cases. The best way to learn if it is a good fit for you is by discussing the option with Dr. Panchal during your initial consultation. Honest, caring, and committed to the health and happiness of each patient, Dr. Panchal will take time to cover all of your options and guide you towards the one that makes the most sense in your case.
