Liposuction is a very popular procedure among males to remove fat from unwanted areas. These areas include:
Am I a Good Candidate for Liposuction?
- Do you have localized areas of fat deposits that are stubborn and fail to disappear after exercise?
- Liposuction is not a weight loss method. You should be as close to your ideal weight as possible and you BMI should be less than 30.
- Do you have excess skin as a result of significant weight loss? If so, liposuction can be coupled with surgical removal of the excess skin.
Planning Your Surgery
If you are interested in liposuction, schedule an appointment for a consultation with Dr. Panchal by calling 405-340-9949. During your initial consultation, Dr. Panchal will examine the areas that need liposuction, determine the location of the small incisions, and discuss the final outcome that you can expect.
The amount of liposuction necessary varies depending on the person, but Dr. Panchal’s ultimate goal is to reshape your body so that it looks aesthetically appealing and proportional. If you would like to see before and after pictures of Dr. Panchal’s liposuction patients, click here.
Furthermore, Genesis Plastic Surgery uses 3D Crisalix OCULUS virtual technology to help you decide if liposuction surgery is right for you. Using virtual reality glasses, you will be able to “see” how liposuction in different areas will change your overall appearance before making your decision.
Dr. Panchal only performs lipo surgery at outpatient surgical centers, such as Oklahoma Surgicare in Oklahoma City. If a large amount of liposuction is needed, or if liposuction is combined with another procedure, an overnight stay at the surgical center may be required.
Small-volume liposuction can be performed under local anesthesia, but moderate to large volumes of liposuction need to be performed under general anesthesia.
Techniques Used in Liposuction Surgery
Over the years, many advancements have been made in the field of liposuction, including the following new techniques:
- Ultrasound-assisted lipoplasty (UAL)
- Power-assisted liposuction (PAL)
- SmartLipo (the tumescent technique)
- Super-wet technique
These techniques allow better definition of the areas where liposuction is performed and reduce bruising and swelling after surgery.
The Liposuction Surgery
Small-area liposuction can be performed in an hour, but more time is needed when 3-5 areas undergo liposuction. The techniques used vary depending on the patient.
If the tumescent technique (or super-wet technique) is used, Dr. Panchal will make a small incision and inject a small amount of fluid into the area. This will reduce the amount of bruising after surgery.
Next, Dr. Panchal will use a small cannula measuring 3-4 mm, or the size of a pencil, connected to a medical suction to remove the excess fat. There are two types of cannulas: mechanical vibrating and ultrasonic. Dr. Panchal will choose between these cannulas depending on the extent of the liposuction.
After all the excess fat is removed, Dr. Panchal will close the small incisions. You will have to wear a compression garment for several weeks following surgery.
How Is Dr. Panchal Different from Other Surgeons?
Liposuction is performed using power-assisted liposuction. Dr. Panchal uses the latest technique and equipment to perform liposuction. This unique technique allows Dr. Panchal to use a hollow tube (liposuction cannula), which vibrates very rapidly to easily break up fat cells. This allows Dr. Panchal to quickly remove large amounts of fat through a small incision.

After a liposuction, some men look great from the front, but they don’t see the same contour from the sides or back. To solve this problem, Dr. Panchal turns you on your tummy and on your sides during the surgery, so he can specifically address the fat in these areas.
What Are the Risks of Lipo?
Liposuction is a very safe surgery if performed by an experienced surgeon and if the volume of fat removed is kept below 5-6 liters. If the volume of fat removed exceeds 5-6 liters, it can produce excess movement of fluid and can create complications from fluid overload. Dr. Panchal always removes fewer than six liters, keeping the risk of complication to a minimum.
Patients may notice some temporary irregularity in their skin surface and moderate swelling. The swelling generally disappears in a few weeks, but swelling in a few, heavily altered areas may last for up to 3 months. Some areas may feel firm for 3-6 weeks.
In rare cases, small areas of fat may not completely soften and may become infected. This rare condition may require additional surgery to remove this small area of fat.
Returning to Normal Life
The healing process takes many weeks. It is important to be patient and wait 3-6 weeks for the swelling to subside before evaluating your results.
A small amount of fluid may drain from the incision site for the first few days following your liposuction. Any unnatural firmness in the tummy will gradually begin to soften and feel normal after about 3 weeks.
Generally, patients can go back to work within a few days if liposuction is very limited. It may take a few weeks if the the liposuction was extensive or if you have had additional surgery in conjunction with the liposuction. The stitches do not need to be removed. They will dissolve in 10 days to 2 weeks.
Your New Look
Once the swelling subsides, you will notice the difference in the shape of your buttocks. With every passing week, you will continue to see the change until 3-6 months after surgery. Remember, you will have to eat healthy and continue to exercise so that you can maintain the result of your liposuction.
