Naturale Lower Facelift in OKC & Edmond
If You are Considering a NATURALE Lower Facelift...
As we age, overexposure to the Oklahoma sun can cause our skin and the fat over our face to sag. This affects more over the mid face (cheek area) and results in nasolabial folds (laugh lines from the side of the nose to the lips). Some develop jowls and in others the neck tends to sag.
The fat in the midface tends to drop vertically down and this results in a deflated face. Rhytidectomy or a face lift cannot reverse the effects of aging but it can certainly turn the clock back so that you look a decade younger. Sometimes adding fat to your face (fat augmentation) enhances your face and makes it look more youthful.
A Naturale facelift here at Genesis Plastic Surgery in Oklahoma City seeks to create a natural full face which looks youthful and rested.
- Am I a good candidate for a facelift?
You are a good candidate for a NATURALE lower facelift neck lift if you have
- Excessive skin in the lower half of your face below your eyes
- Excessive skin under your chin
- Excessive fat in your neck or double chin
- Deflated and sagging mid face or cheek area
You are not a good candidate for lower facelift/neck lift if you also have excessive skin and laxity of the upper face brow and temple area.
- Where Your Surgery Will Be Performed
A NATURALE lower facelift/necklift will be performed in my Oklahoma City office under local anesthesia and some oral sedation. Typically we will ask you to have a narcotic pain medication and an oral sedation like Xanax 1.5 hours prior to your surgery. Once you are in the office, I will take your blood pressure and inject local anesthetic. After a period of 3-5 minutes of discomfort, the entire procedure is painless. Most patients listen to music, or sleep through it, and when the procedure is finished, you can go home completely awake and have no grogginess that evening to deal with. The local anesthetic makes the recovery from a facelift very quick and what is more important, there is minimal swelling and bruising as the blood pressure remains stable throughout your procedure. Of course, your cost is reduced as there is no charge for the local anesthetic and what is more important – no complications from general anesthesia.
- Types of Anesthesia
Your NATURALE facelift will be performed under local anesthesia and oral sedation. If you so desire, the surgery can be performed at an Oklahoma City surgery center under IV sedation (an additional cost may be involved from the anesthesiologist).
- The Surgery
A NATURALE lower facelift at Genesis in Oklahoma City usually takes three hours or somewhat longer if you're having more than one procedure done.
The incision is placed in the cartilage of your ear along a natural shadow line. The remaining incision is placed behind your ear so that it is barely visible. The skin and fat are then lifted and your fascia is then tightened in a vertical direction (high deep SMAS lift) to correct your jowls and lift your cheeks. This allows the lower facelift to last much longer than a typical S Lift or a Lifestyle lift. A small incision is placed in an area underneath your chin and the youthful contour of the neck is obtained by performing a corset plastysmoplasty. This unique technique allows plication (gathering) of the sling of muscles of the neck so that any vertical bands that you have will disappear. I also perform liposuction of the neck to remove all the excess fat and correct your double chin. The vertical direction of the pull, or correction, results in a very natural appearing face following the surgery. If you have lost fat from aging, fat can be injected into your face to further enhance your facial features. The excess loose skin is then trimmed and removed. All the sutures are placed under the skin and do not need to be removed. A small drain is left at the end of the surgery to allow the blood to be drained. The drain is removed in a few days after the surgery.
- How does Dr. Panchal differ from other surgeons?
All facelifts are not equal. In the past, it has been associated with stigma of a tight and stretched face. It was as if women with facelifts could be recognized a mile away in a party. Well, the good news is that things have changed. Facelifts are now done very differently. The downtime is reduced to a week and surgeons are doing less to achieve more. A NATURALE facelift by Dr. Panchal has minimal to near invisible incisions after surgery. The predominant correction of sagging is vertically up so that your face looks full and not stretched. The plication of the neck muscles will make a dramatic change in the contour of your neck. The before and after photos below will show you how a natural face can be created without the typical facelift look. It is as if a decade has been taken away from your face. Your face is not changed, it is just more youthful and rejuvenated.
- All Surgery Carries Some Uncertainty and Risk
When a NATURALE lower facelift is performed by Dr. Panchal, complications are infrequent and usually minor. You will have swelling over your face which will take 7-10 days to subside. You can, rarely, develop a hematoma or collection of blood. If this happens, you may require an additional surgery to remove the blood clots. Smoking can impair healing and this can result in some areas not healing. It is therefore very important to stop smoking prior to surgery to reduce complications. Rarely you may have some asymmetry of face temporarily due to the swelling. This will subside.
- After Your Surgery
There will be some swelling on your face after the surgery. The swelling can be reduced by application of ice and sleeping in the upright position. The lower facelift procedure is not very painful and you will receive pain medications to reduce your discomfort. If you have persistent pain, please call me so I can check out whether you have a hematoma or not. There may some asymmetry of the face as there may be more swelling on one side than the other. The skin over the face may be numb for a very few weeks to a month or so.
Your drainage tube will be removed one or two days after surgery. The swelling and bruising will subside in a week to 10 days, so please be patient.
- Getting Back to Normal
You will be up and about in the next day or so. Take it easy and give some time for your face to heal. It may take seven to ten days for the swelling to subside completely and you will be able to visit your friends and attend social functions at that time. You can walk briskly in two weeks and you may perform aerobic exercises in four to six weeks. You can apply make up on your face in a week to 10 days to camouflage your bruises if you have any.
- Your New Look
As the swelling on your face subsides, you will start seeing the results of the surgery. You will see that your face outline will be more defined and your face and neck will appear youthful. You will look in the mirror and thank yourself for doing this to yourself.
We do over 50 of these every year and patients just love that it is done under local anesthetic, dramatically reducing their down time and recovery.
